Seems to be that I’m on a kick of posting about weekend things lately – but only because DC has had a some great green stuff to check out. If you’re bummed that you missed Veggie Fest this past weekend, fear not. Coming to town this weekend is Green Festival – an even larger event which features two full days of speakers, exhibits, activities, food, and retail vendors. This multi-stop event is intended to promote sustainability, fair trade, ecologically friendly practices, and social justice and will be in DC the 29th – 30th.
According to the event description online, there will be multiple stages featuring speakers discussing whatever flavor of environmental initiatives you’re most into – including fair trade, the future of transportation, food and nutrition, and a number of keynote speakers addressing overarching issues like sustainability. Sponsors like Ford, Clif Bars, Naked Juice, and many other big-name brands are fronting efforts, and event details promise over 300 retailers (all of whom have been certified by the coordinating nonprofits, so you know they’re legit.) You do have to buy tickets (bummer) but they’re still available online. Better yet – if you’re looking to get in for free, there’s a volunteer page on the website. Oh – and don’t worry. The location is accessible by metro and metro bus.
