I invented an irrigation valve that it can now operate at very low water pressures making it suitable for third world countries. It runs at very low feed rates too, down to as low as 2 liters-per-hour ....yet can intermittently operate an array of sprinklers and drippers simultaneously without using any electricity or timers. The intermittent water pulses can run continuously 24 hours a day and draw very little water to keep sea water from intruding into their water table which is a big problem in Kiribati.

Also, ultra-low-flow metering of water is more efficient than high volume watering because the low flow rates can be adjusted and regulated to match the low assimilation rates plants can absorb the water, and avoid water loss to the soil and leaching of nutrients. It can grow vegetables in the very porous and sandy soils of Kiribati. I use this system to grow my own vegetables in 100% sand. I add a small sprinkling of fertilizer to the surface of the sand for mineral nutrients. FRESH VEGETABLES FOR KIRIBATI ! Note: The coral sand could be an issue because of the high calcium content. Inert sand such as found in river beds works better.....However, spinach is rich in calcium and calcium builds strong teeth and bones. It bolts in warm weather so frequent harvests of baby spinach would work while intermittent sprinkling would make germination of seedlings very easy.
